Eating Seasonally

January 20, 2022

There’s just something tastier about tomatoes in the summer, or how a cozy stew feels right in the chillier months. It’s all about eating seasonally, and with a growing awareness for eating locally and knowing where your food comes from, it’s a great way to eat delicious, fresh food year-round.

While this isn’t a comprehensive list, and it can vary based on where you live, here are some seasonal guidelines to start from.

  • Spring: Broccoli, kale, peas, grapefruit, pineapples, turnips, radishes
  • Summer: Asparagus, corn, bell peppers, cucumber, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, blueberries, cherries, lemon, limes, melon, strawberries
  • Fall: Carrots, potatoes, almonds, apples, cranberries, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, wild mushrooms, pears, squash, pumpkin
  • Winter: Brussels sprouts, celery, oranges, tangerines, kiwi, collards, leeks

You can, of course, get most items year-round but this is when these foods are at their freshest.

Happy cooking!
